This course is a survey of the history, practices, and challenge of special education. It includes an overview of the course cases and laws leading to IDEA and discussion of the specific disabilities described therein. The course examines current philosophies and their impact on children and adults with disabilities. For Education majors, a current TB test and fingerprint-based background check must be on file in the School of Education prior to beginning the field component associated with this course. Verification of completion of the field component is required for education candidates to pass this course. 3 credit course. Prequisite: Admission to the School of Education.
